Understanding A Reiki Healing Session

The traditional treatment is a very simple, non-intrusive process. The treatment lasts for about an hour, according to individual needs. The patient may lie down or sit, fully clothed.

 Relaxing music is played. The Reiki practitioner places his/her hands lightly on/over the body in various positions (corresponding to the major 'chakras') for about five minutes, and then moves to the next position.

Balancing the energy points.

A sensation of warmth, cold or tingling may be experienced, and a general feeling of well-being. The whole body is treated, not just an isolated area. This enables the energy to go right to the source of the imbalance, and not just to the manifesting symptoms. The Reiki session sets in motion the body's own self-healing process, which continues after the treatment is over.

When the person has Reiki, he/she can give himself/herself a treatment everyday. This is a great boost, balancing his/her energy levels, to face the day. Whether treating oneself or someone else, the same format is used. Starting on the head, the first four positions energize and balance the brain and the cervical spine. This is the command post of each being. The following four hand positions encompass all the front of the torso, enhancing all the organs. The last four hand positions work down the back, relaxing tight muscles and easing back strain.

Through all this work, Reiki is also improving all the bodily systems, e.g., circulation, neurological, digestive, respiratory and endocrine. So much for the physical self. Reiki also moves in the deeper levels of the mind and spirit, easing out stress and uplifting the depressed, bringing rational thought and a joy to life.
